One member of staff continues to be employed to coordinate intervention groups in learning support. These groups target low attainers in year 7.

One teacher works with the year 7 nurture group. This includes students who arrive below a level 4c and need targeted support to ensure their integration into mainstream lessons.

Maths and English

All students eligible for catch up premium are invited to Breakfast Club. Students attend before school and take part in 20 minutes of PE, have breakfast and then receive a boost of literacy or numeracy.

Students have been given Key Stage 3 revsion workbooks in Maths and English.

12 iPads have been purchased to aid the small group intervention in both Maths and English.

English

Reading intervention

Students identified as achieving below a level 4 at KS2 Reading tests are targeted utilising the Read, Write, Ink and Sound reading intervention programmes. Students were tested and received one to one reading support appropriate for their level. Undergraduates from Anglia Ruskin’s Peterborough campus are trained to deliver targeted intervention.

Accelerated Reader

One lesson per week in year 7 is now devoted to the Accelerated Reader programme. This tests students reading levels and suggests appropriate reading material, then testing student understanding of the text after they have read it.

Reading Resources

Spell checkers and dyslexia pens have been purchased to support both whole class teaching and one to one work with the Year 7 catch up students.

Maths

One to one tutoring

Undergraduates from Anglia Ruskin’s Peterborough Campus were trained by the Maths department to deliver one to one tutoring to all students eligible for the Maths catch up premium. Students work in small groups and received an hour of tutoring per week. Targeted students also work with Maths staff on a one to one basis.

Online Maths Tasks on Doddle

A number of numeracy tasks were set on the online resource Doddle for students to complete under the supervision of 6th form students. The tasks specifically address gaps in students’ understanding to enable them to develop the skills needed to achieve a level 4.

Accelerated Maths

The accelerated Maths programme monitors and tracks the progress of Year 7 catch up students both in the intervention conducted in Learning Support and in the small group work led by the Maths department.

We are continuing to work with the year 7 catch up students from 2014/15 as they move into year 8. The ‘Moving On’ programme continues intervention in learning support, and on average 25 students attend the after school Maths and English booster club on a Tuesday and Thursday. The Accelerated Reader programme also continues into year 8.
